Bubble Augmented Waterjet Propulsion: Numerical and Experimental Studies

چکیده
In this paper, we present our efforts to test experimentally and numerically the concept of bubble augmented jet propulsion. The numerical model is based on a two-way coupling between an Eulerian description of the flow field and a Lagrangian tracking of bubbles using the Surface Averaged Pressure (SAP) model. The numerical results compares favorably with nozzle experiments. A half 3-D nozzle for bubble augmented propulsion was designed and optimized using the developed numerical code, which in the end yielded a design that produces net thrust increase with increased bubble injection rate. The numerical code can be a robust tool for the general two-phase flow nozzle design as demonstrated in the present numerical and experimental studies.

Influence of Asymmetry and Driving Forces on the Propulsion of Bubble-Propelled Catalytic Micromotors
Bubble-propelled catalytic micromotors have recently been attracting much attention. A bubble-propulsion mechanism has the advantage of producing a stronger force and higher speed than other mechanisms for catalytic micromotors, but the nature of the fluctuated bubble generation process affects the motions of the micromotors, making it difficult to control their motions. Thus, understanding of ...
متن کاملNozzle Design for Low-Pressure Micro Abrasive Waterjet Blasting via CFD Simulations
Waterjet technology has been extensively used in machining processes since 1970’s, and in the last years it has evolved to a precision machining tool for micro workpieces, namely micro abrasive-waterjet blasting (μAWJB); nevertheless, as a finishing process to remove micro-burrs it has not been yet developed. Our experimental studies on low-pressure μAWJB showed that conventional nozzles which ...

The present study considers of the water and air flow and Micro-Bubble production inside the venturi tube, by the use of dimensional analysis. Numerical analysis of Micro-Bubble creation in venturi tube requires fast computers and large amounts of storage space. Up to now, there has been no numerical analysis concerning Micro-Bubble creation and all other existing studies are experimental. To s...

Numerical modeling of machining processes is of significance in the parametric analysis and optimization of their performance. In this paper, a finite element-based model of abrasive waterjet (AWJ) cutting of a ductile material is presented with the help of an explicit, nonlinear finite element method. In this model, both solid-solid interaction and fluid-structure interaction are considered. T...
متن کاملComparison of Turbulence Models for Simulating Flow in Waterjets
We have developed a fast numerical algorithm for simulating flows in complex moving domains. The new hybrid smoothed profile/spectral element method exhibits high-order accuracy as well as great computational efficiency as it removes the tyranny of mesh generation. Here we extend this work by incorporating a variational multiscale large eddy formulation for modeling the subgrid turbulent scales...
